With strict instructions not to make any changes to the primary identity, South Africa’s Electoral Commission recognized the need to develop a comprehensive set of guidelines for their brand. We discovered that very little had been developed in the way of visual assets and applications so our task was to develop an entire visual language system from scratch.

We also needed to ensure that the guidelines allowed for anyone across hundreds of offices in South Africa to easily apply and implement the brand consistently.

One of our biggest challenges was develop a co-branding system that allowed for election campaign identities to work alongside the primary identity no matter how they are designed.

Our final task was to develop a cost-effective yet ownable and distinct signage and wayfinding system for all IEC offices. This was captured in a technical manual for manufacture and installation.
